I found a wallet STUFFED with goodies

New posts
What a great example for your little ones, Mike. All the good karma will come back to you...and more.:D

Nice letter to the editor in the Sun today, from the wallet owner, thanking Mike.

Come on. Are you serious? What paper? I didn't know about that. Certainly lifts my spirits as I'm kinda down in the dumps today.

I'd like to see that letter. The gyu did end up contacting me. I'd liked to have conversated with him more but forget why, but I was in a terrible rush when he called.

I'll have to get a copy of that. Brings a ring of tear around my eye for a different reason that I've been feeling today. Thanks for sharing.

Oh wait, I see, The Walton Sun. Sorry about that. I thought you were saying the Sun as in the Sunday paper. Didn't notice that was from today. I'll have to check that out. Thanks!

I just went up to the store to see the letter myself. Very touching. Btw, I saw a rattlesnake on my way, went back to get my camera, but upon returning, it had secluded itself into the weeds.

But back to the letter. Let me reflect. I'm kinda in a sentimental mood right now. I just read through some of the truly sweet things that were said about me in this thread. It's something how we sometimes need to feel validated. I did not do what I did for that reason, but damn if it doesn't feel good to read the outpouring of love you've sent my way.

Allow me to talk jibberish for a second. It sometimes gets me into trouble or misunderstood when I free associate, but heck, I don't learn from my mistakes, I just live by feel. So here goes.

I'm on a lonely road. I found a wallet on that road and gave it back. But still, I walk upon a lonely road. I wonder if my life will ever recapture the dlightfulness, wonder, awe and innocence of youth. I think not. I've seen too much ugliness.

But swimming amongst the deep blue sea has recaptured some of it. Meeting some wonderful tourists was nice, but they left. Meeting a tiny few good people here along 30A, few because I am so damn into Nature and a bit reclusive I guess, but making some little friends has restored some of my hope.

But the responses I've had from some of you, the acceptance, and the black blotches of love you've sent in your posts to me has been very nice. Well, I erased some of my ramblings here. Too convoluted. All over the damn place ;)

But what you guys did for me, in writing such wonderful things to me and about me, far outweighs anything I did regarding the wallet. The wallet was material but your kindness to me in acknowledging me was so spiritual and something I can carry with me.

Bless you all with hope and love.

Truly, thank you.

Way to go Mike and glad the owner appreciated your honestly.

Go Mike Go ...anyone have a link to the letter?

Walton Sun August 22 edition

I tried finding the letter from the website, but don't find it. Essentially Jordan Buckley noted how busy his life was and how lucky he was that Mike found his wallet as it could have turned out far worse. Cool how he took the time to give Mike credit as was due.

This incident reminded me of a quote from David Foster Wallace about freedom:

"The really important kind of freedom involves attention, and awareness, and discipline, and effort, and being able truly to care about other people and to sacrifice for them, over and over, in myriad petty little unsexy ways, every day."

His last book will be coming out soon. He died earlier this year. NPR did a special on him recently.
