I just can't make up my mind

Lake View Too

To me, it's either the Beatles or Pink Floyd. I've watched an excessive amount of videos on Youtube about these two icons of contemporary music. I've listen to them my entire life. From junior high until the present. Even though Pink Floyd peaked a few years after the Beatles, in many respects, they were contemporaries, just completely different in style and content. Make no mistake, I worship U2. In every way, they have been the defining embodiment of the concept of the greatest rock and roll band of all time. I am curious about your response.

You are wasting energy...love all of them for they are all unique and bring music to us that we will love and enjoy forever!

The Beatles and the Rolling Stones are my favorites. The Beatles are the best artists of modern time. Their music was a fabulous morphing of rock and roll artists and rhythm and blues artists (like Chuck Berry) that transcended into their own incredibly diverse music. Who else could create so many albums in which none of the tracks sounded alike. Who else could create Rubber Soul and The white Album? Lennon and McCartney were exceptional songwriters. All four were exceptional musicians.

The Stones are just comsummate performers, and Mick Jagger IS THE consummate performer. I have watched him for hours (in live concerts and on the Scorcese documentary). Just like The Beatles, they digested the rock and roll, R&B (Muddy Waters), and even U.S. country music of their predecessors and contemporaries and took it to a higher level. "Midnight Rambler," "Angie", "Wild Horses," "Sympathy for the Devil," "You Can't Always Get What You Want," "Out of Tears," "It's Only Rock 'N Roll," and Keith's occasional tracks like "Slipping Away." What a diverse collection of songs!

I like Pink Floyd too BTW, but to me they were not as stellar as The Beatles and The Stones. For me it's The Beatles #1 for music and The Stones #1 for the combination of stage performances and their music.

I didn't even know the Stones were still alive. The SuperBowl performance they did a few years ago looked like zombies could have done better. I'm quite surprised no U2 fans have stepped up. Just think how well the Beatles and Floyd tunes have endured for over forty years.

Pink Floyd rules; however, it was David Gilmour who gave them their iconic sound, IMHO. Roger Waters had the writing chops, but Gilmour gave them the "sound". His solo albums are works of art. I know Roger Waters has his "opera", but he continues to make his nickle by taking "The Wall" tour out every few years. He never really evolved much after Floyd...

The only think I'll say about Floyd is that they never really rocked, at least not to my mind. The Beatles did. I don't know if that makes them better, but if I go with my gut I have to say Beatles.

I loved Gilmour's first two solo albums. His latest one put me to sleep. His playing definitely made the sound of Pink Floyd (along with Rick Wright adding the atmosphere) and I think the period from Dark Side to Animals is unmatched by any group, at any time, for sheer creative perfection. I think The Wall was simply disturbing.

I know what you mean, but the Beatles moved away from Rock and Roll into something unique, and the Floyd never did do rock and roll, but certain passages did "get down", as the youngsters say. I have no idea why the wall gets so much attention when "Animals" is just a stunning, complex and complete symphony of creative genius.
