I just can't make up my mind

I know what you mean, but the Beatles moved away from Rock and Roll into something unique, and the Floyd never did do rock and roll, but certain passages did "get down", as the youngsters say. I have no idea why the wall gets so much attention when "Animals" is just a stunning, complex and complete symphony of creative genius.

I don't think the "Wall" was made to actually be listened to. It's just a piece of work you're supposed to know about and be familiar with, but that's pretty much it.

I'm with BR.

Radio K.A.O.S. - Ballad of Billy & Jim

Pink Floyd rules; however, it was David Gilmour who gave them their iconic sound, IMHO. Roger Waters had the writing chops, but Gilmour gave them the "sound". His solo albums are works of art. I know Roger Waters has his "opera", but he continues to make his nickle by taking "The Wall" tour out every few years. He never really evolved much after Floyd...

IMO, Roger Waters evolved, and produced an Opus rock opera that few have even heard. I'll try to rip the CD and/or post a link. As for the Pink Floyd sound and who brung it, Roger definitely contributed his share (take a listen to Radio KAOS - "Billy's in a wheelchair; he hears radio waves.").

Me too (sans wheelchair).

Just to clear things up.... This one's Pink

This could be the most disturbing video of their career... French American Bandstand...

I think Roger has always been trying to channel his inner Syd and he simply doesn't have one.

I don't know that anybody should have an inner Syd. If they do, it will probably result in long term mental therapy. His stuff before Gilmour was just F'd up...sorry 'bout that...but it was. The further he fell into his mania the more strange the music became. Unfortunately, bad drugs tore up his brain.

Hard for me to compare the Beatles to Pink Floyd. It's like apples and oranges. They certainly did not start off on the same path (e.g.: pop for the Beatles and conceptual music for Floyd). PF moved towards mainstream starting with Metal, but I think they were still being true to themselves. The Beatles, IMHO, moved away from mainstream pop, but the difference is that they had the built in huge fan base that would follow them wherever they went. They kind of met somewhere in the middle to a degree.

RIP Richard Wright. Too bad he passed away. I don't know that there would have ever been a full scale reunion tour, but I think Gilmour and Waters had put enough of the past behind them that they could do one off shows here and there. Unfortunately, when Rick Wright passed, so, too, did that possibility.
