Items left on beach being addressed

Explaining the unexlainable

I like the idea of just watching til the hole is 6' deep and it almost has reached that point. His answer as to why dig that deep was, "Who wants to know?" That followed several other ude comments he made about my perfectly acceptable suggestions for its use and the reason to fill it nightly....

I wasn't looking for volunteers unless nighttime vigilante activity is voluntary and unpaid.

The hole has the sand piled around it on 3 sides as a berm and now decorated with Am flags. It is just swell, just swell.

:D

One of my lifelong goals is to be on a nighttime vigilante squad.

Just curious, how do people feel about things being left at the base of the dunes, both personal items and the rental chairs and umbrellas that are left stacked overnight ?

I don't feel good about it. It is still leaving personal items on the beach.

Leaving items at the base of the dunes is like leaving stuff on the edge of a national forest, instead of inside the forest. What is the difference?:idontno:

Miss Kitty would be disappointed today if she had seen what I saw -- probably 50+ WaterColor beach chairs left on the beach tonight.

It's just my slightly jaded opinion, but these three items will not get better until the county and TDC get quit waffling and get aggressive with enforcement:

-Digging holes
-Setting up right on the wet sand line, blocking the view and strolling room
-Leaving stuff out overnight

I suspect the private beach issue led many of the chair vendors to start setting up at the wet line, and the vacationers followed suit.

As for the holes, did the planets all line up in a row or what? Why on earth did that get to be so popular in just the last year?

I recently made a business trip to Daytona and was simply stunned at how empty the beach there was, despite the massive number of people using it.

We can fume all we want on SoWal, but nothing will happen without decisive action from the county and TDC. This could go on a LONG TIME if we're waiting on a decisive court decision on private beaches.

I think I will make up a bunch of flyers with articles about children being buried alive (including, sadly, the ones that didnt make it back OUT alive) in those holes and hand them out to the parents that allow this to happen. Maybe that will be a wake up call for some of them. I could also include the story of a co-worker that fell into one, broke her arm, was out of work for a long time and lost her house, car etc.

I think they aught to collect the stuff, and sell it to pay for beach clean up! In fact, they could leave a flyer in the rooms to recycle beach items. Nice little business for someone, or charity!
