Maybe a new mattress will help???

New posts
I sleep on a latex mattress, and LOVE it. Not many people know about these, but they are amazing, (and way cheaper than those high-end Sealys etc.) Once you get one you're hooked. They are 100% natural and completely hypoallergenic. Awesome on the back, and very very comfortable. I put a pillow top pad on top of it for extra comfort. (Think about getting a seperate pillow topper than one built in to the mattress. If it comes with built-in, you can't flip your mattress ever, and the pillow top crushes down in a year or two. Buy a separate one and your mattress will last indefinitely, and replace the topper as necessary.) I can show you where to order these online if you can't find them.

About the only thing that I'm allergic to is the polyurethane in regular mattresses--I just walk into a mattress store and my head and neck swells up, can't breathe. It emits gasses for months after purchase too, toxic stuff to sleep so close to for 1/3 of your life.

Bottom line advice from someone who just went through this: Get a good, not-too-soft, not-too-firm mattress, and experiment with a really good pillow topper of some kind. (temperpedic, latex, or regular foam.) If you buy a regular mattress, it's good to let it "outgas" for several weeks if possible before sleeping on it.

Thank you all! I knew I'd get tons of great advice! It is one of the hardest things to purchase.

The back store guy has three different levels of firmness in the Tempurpedic bed. He said Brookstone, etc. sell one firmness only. I have also heard good things about the select number beds. kb...I must agree with you about the pillow topper beds and flipping (MATTRESSES, not REAL ESTATE!). The sales people say the newer mattresses DO NOT need to be flipped...can that be true?

I have a friend who worked as a mattress salesman, who says this is how they phrase it in order to turn a liability into a "feature." It's not that it never needs to be flipped, it's that it can't be flipped. He told me that line they fed you is the biggest racket in the mattress game right now. As he says, why buy half the bed?

I know he's your friend but I always get creeped out by mattress salesmen.

So funny you should start this thread Miss Kitty, because I need a new one also. We have the sleep number bed. We paid alot of money for it. Have hated it since we got it. (Unfortunately we let the free trial period run out before taking it back, and were stuck with it.) It is not what it is cracked up to be. My back still hurts, and it is not as comfortable as it claims to be. We have had it for about 2 years now. Because of the money invested in it, we just couldn't see getting rid of it after we bought it. I am going to try and sale it, and get something else. My daddy alway's told me, there are two things you should invest your money in, and that is a dependable car, and a good mattress. Seagrovelover, let me know what your friends think of their sleep number after a week or so!!!!

I've heard great things about the latex mattresses and Thermapedic, but I've also heard if you have night sweats, these mattresses make it even worse!
