Pay it forward

My favorite is to pay for the car behind me in the Starbucks drive-thru. By the time they get to the window I am long gone - with a smile on my face.

I think I need to go to Starbucks today!

Oh goodness, you are all so noble-minded. I think of pay-it-forward when I slip my kids an extra $5. Like hopefully they'll remember it when I'm old and feeble and they won't put me in a lousy home.

Alot of the kids that go to my son's school are from very low income families. The school is always nickel and diming us to death. I alway's send extra money with my son if his class is asked to purchase books, supplies or other things for their classroom, because I know most of those kids just do not have the money to do this.

In case you can't trust 'em- long term care insurance!! :clap_1: Mom has it- but now I can't say "you better behave or God knows where you will end up!'

I just love the Houston's on West Paces. It's a neighborhood crowd, unlike the Lenox location that I refuse to go to, so it has a real family atmosphere (despite the woman who was rude to us last night). I just love their comfort food. I love the clubby feeling of the place. The waitrons are all so good. I can spend <$10 for a burger (although I usually get the Ahi Tuna Salad for $14) and get pampered. That place is worth the wait.

How do we pay it forward? In the past we've gone to the local farmer's supply to buy kerosene for a heater to keep our outdoor dog warm. My husband would be embarrassed because there would be people literally counting their pennies to pay for kerosene for heat for themselves. So he would give the owner of the store (whom we know) a "fund" to pay for kerosene for obviously poor people.

Personally, I pay it forward through my students. At Tech they give no mercy if you have a test on a day you have a death in the family or a documented illness. My daughter has taken many exams there with a 102? or above fever - no makeups allowed. So I have decided to take mercy on my own students. I have had several students this semester who have had problems (health and family) and had no chance of passing, yet it was past the withdrawal date. So I administratively gave them a withdraw passing so they wouldn't lower their GPAs and lose their HOPE scholarships. I told them that it was a "Pay It Forward" gift from me, and that maybe if I showed mercy on my students, one of my daughter's professors would eventually show mercy on her.

Man my professors had no mercy. Good for you! :clap_1:

Although I probably didn't help the situation by stumbling into class with sand still stuck on my legs.

I always make a donation to Petco's charity when I buy anything for Molly. I love letting people in front of me when driving. I always push a shopping cart in from the parking lot when I see one. And, I smile and say hello to everyone I see and especially the ones that have a sour look!

Blessings on you for you generosity. It is tragic to see children do without because of a parent's poor choice. Kids have no real option. I always sent in extra field trip money to help out those who were financially challenged.

We do the same thing- 'cause it will come out of the teachers' pockets if we don't give, and we know how grossly underpaid they are!!
