I did not make it to the last BCC meeting, but on one of the other message boards someone is posting about a 10 million dollar property purchase that was made by the BCC. Anyone happen to know any details, I have not seen it in the news.

See the Angelo's thread in the Real Estate section. It is the site of the proposed Angelo's condos over by Eastern Lake.

They did not make the purchase. Ronnie Bell brought it up for discussion and suggested the county look for grants to use as purchase money.

As NotDeadYet correctly mentioned, the County didn't purchase the property. The County did have one appraisal done (I guess they don't care about getting three and taking the average price), and are looking into finding funds/grants to make the purchase.

And why do we need this? Habitat? state park? or just to keep the condos out?

We don't. All of a sudden the county seems to be getting all sorts of offers to purchase land for the market value set by the county property appraiser. Wonder why?

oh yea... dump that property you cant develop in the counties lap. Way to go, developers looking for the quick buck! Sorry but I guess SOWAL real estate wont be paying for that house in the Bahamas like you planned. What a Catch22 situation ......folks wanting it appraised high for the resale then not being able to sell it for that and trying to blame the PA. Glad I dont have enough $$ to be a RE speculator/developer.

not in all cases Jodi...one recent purchase by the county school board from a local developer netted him a tidy 2 or 3 million dollar profit...it was the 40 acre parcel purchased at the end of last year...i think the developer had only had the parcel a couple of years or so, bought it at the top of the market for around 1.2 and sold it after the crash to the county for i think around 4...developer hero county zero...
