Rescue workers busy pulling folks from surf

New posts
My sympathy level for people who go into the water when the red flag is up and get into trouble continues to diminish (and wasn't that high to begin with).

IMO if kids shorter than my waist that I can pick up with one arm, can understand the flag system, noone w/ reading ability has an excuse for being in the water beyond Darwinism!

GREEN=go, YELLOW=caution, RED=stop/danger!

And as I typed that another siren went by! :(

I called SWFD. 10 rescues today. On a seperate post our surfers disagree with the flags. Red appears to be keeping the guards busy and the sirens going. Would it be better if it was green or yellow today and yesterday:idontno:

Why are people disagreeing with the flags? :idontno:

I was at the Grayton outfall midday Friday - at that time the flags were yellow and the waves/undertow were strong enough that I didn't go past midthigh into the Gulf - and I'm a former lifeguard and swimmer whose races used to be measured in thousands of meters.

Last night's ch 7 (PCB) news reported over 100 rescues in PCB, yesterday, with 40+ in South Walton. I saw the aftermath of one or two yesterday in Seaside and Seagrove within 10 minutes of each other. Double red flags were hoisted and a sheriff deputy and lifeguard walked past one guy standing waist-deep in the water (dbl reds flying), and they didn't even look twice at the guy. Talked to a guy later who said that Darwin would take care of anyone who wanted to go out there.

Just heard on the PCB news tonight that one of the missing guys from PCB was found this morning, dead in the water. He was last seen going in after another swimmer who was in trouble.

One fellow SoWal.comER performed a successful rescue yesterday at Grayton. Good Job!

Kelli Precourt, who owns Balance Health Studio on 30A, literally RAN from the pool at WaterSound yesterday when she heard folks on the beach were in trouble. She dove in and helped several who were caught in the water before the rescue workers arrived. Kelli is such a class act in many respects and yesterday proved herself a hero. Here's a link to her business http://balance30a.com/.

Kelli rocks!

Wow -- that is FANTASTIC and very, very selfless. Not many bystanders would do such a thing.

SJ were you referring to Kelli or someone else?

I think he is talking about Greenroomsurfer and his trusty surfboard, who performed a rescue on Saturday. Recovering back surgery and all.

We went down to Grayton last night, after passing flashing blue lights on 30A that were heading east. Turns out they went to haul someone out of the water at the Grayton State Park- we could see the blue lights from Grayton Beach.

Also on Saturday, 2 boys, about 9 or 10, were swimming fairly far out n the surf, which was red flag and looked like a blender. They walked by me as they came in, and I asked them if they knew about the flag system and if their mother knew too. The just shrugged and said "It's no big deal. Mom let's us swim." Hey "Mom"- if you are reading this, you are lucky that you still have your kids.

What is wrong with these people???

Hopefully things will calm down next week when we arrive for our annual vacation. We select our vacation week based on the moon cycle. No moon = calm water. Is that mostly true?
