I have been a Seminole fan since way before Bobby Bowden ever came to town. I have watched virtually every FSU-Miami game for the past two decades or more. Can anyone tell me why I keep doing this? Why do I completely get stressed out and pace up and down and agonize over every last second in the final moments of every game? Is there a group therapy session we can attend to cope with this, or are we going to have to fool ourselves into thinking it will be different next year? My heart can't take this anymore...
After an exhausting 36 hours in Tallahassee, I have some reflections for you...
At least when watching on TV, you can turn it off and not have to see and listen to hordes of Miami fans...and you can go to bed, instead of sitting in traffic for almost two hours trying to get out of Booster parking and negotiate Tennessee Street (no joke - since it was tense, nobody left early. It was two o'clock before we got to the hotel!)
Good news...the sportsmanship "meeting" of the teams at midfield may have had an effect. I did not see
any fights on the field, nor did I see any in the stands. I saw a lot of good-natured jawing (of course, I don't sit near the visitor section and am a bit removed from the students ;-)). I also heard a LOT of "good game, guys" from Miami fans, all the way out of the stadium and into the traffic jam. That is a first. Of course, many of their bandwagon fans have left, as have ours. Quite honestly, this was the most exciting, most electric, most evenly matched, and CLEANEST game I've ever seen between the two. I wish we had won.
And I am extremely grateful that we did not put our freshman kicker into a position to kick a wide field goal at the end of the game. If we are going to lose to Miami, let it be the way we did last night and not due to something that will be replayed over and over ad nauseum for the next fifteen years.
