Shooting on WPT last night???

New posts
From the sounds of it, the WCSO were called into an awful situation that they went to great lengths to diffuse and get everyone out of safely, but sadly that was not possible.

Very tough situation, and I am grateful that the only person injured was the one threatening others and himself.

There is not enough info yet to know if they did the right thing. There could have been a way to wound or stop him without killing him. Cops are supposed to try to help people that need it, not just kill them so I would hold my judgement until you know all of the facts.

I wouldn't be so quick to blame the police. Odds are good that the fellow they shot had a long history of unstable behavior...they were just unfortunate enough to have to respond when his unstable behavior involved a gun.

I am not blaming anything on the police, there is just not enough facts to say anyone did the right thing. The guy obviously was having problems and it is also speculation that he had any history at all with being unstable unless you know some facts that we don't.

I thought this was in Pt. Washington. Those are deputies, the police are in DeFuniak Springs.

Just saw the update on the news and am praying for his family. I realize now who it was and am glad they have such goods folks (like the ones I saw speaking with the deputy this AM) surrounding them at this horrible time.

If an armed person points a weapon at me with intent to shoot and I am armed, I am aiming for center mass, unless I am a trained marksman in a relaxed situation, especially if this is taking place in a neighborhood where my stray bullet might injure or kill an innocent person.

However, I do agree that from the limited information given in the newspaper, we don't have enough information to make credible judgments on anyone.

okay, you are kidding me right? Are you under the impression that a deputy is not part of the police force?

He's baaaaaack!

Now back to the situation...When the man was walking around with a gun jammed into his own chin, there were negotiations and the subject's wife and daughter were able to move to safety. When you point an AK-47 at a deputy sheriff, police officer, anybody...the time for negotiations has passed.

NA, from this thread and from the "rogue cop" thread, I get the distinct impression that you do not care for law enforcement officers. Even so, remember that they are human beings, just like you and me. The situation last night could have become a bloodbath if the deputy had not reacted to the situation. I have not heard which deputy it was, and I may not even know him, but one thing I will guarantee:

The deputy that fired the fatal shot will see that scene every time he closes his eyes for a very long time, if not the rest of his life.

It is sad it had to happen this way. God bless our guys under the blue lights.
