I wish mom & daddy had a computer, it'd be a nice break while there. He's in and out of it and there are so many people wanting to be near him we take turns at his side. Having too many people around him at once seems to disturb him. I have 3 sisters and 1 brother. The 5 of us all want to be with him. Daddy has 15 grandchildren from the ages 30 to 8 and they are all crazy about him too. Trying to give everyone a chance to say goodbye when Daddy is awake like being an air traffic controller at O'Hare. I may have to put up those velvet ropes they have at the movies for crowd controil.

Wow. I can picture it and it makes me smile. How fortunate you are to have a daddy like him ... and how blessed he must feel right now, despite everything. Amazing. Hang in there.

Thanks for checking back in Lynne. hugs.

Paula - What a beautiful poem .................

I was thinking about your dad, you, and your family as well these past few weeks. He sounds like such a gracious man, and you and your family are giving him so much love that will carry him through his journey. I found a poem that helped us so much during my Mom's last days. I hope you find it as sweet as we did (I guess boats are considered "she" but the point works well for men and women!) And remember to take good care of yourself, too.

I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning
breeze and starts for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength,
and I stand and watch her
until at length she is only a
speck of white cloud
just where the sea and sky meet
and mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side exclaims,
?There, she?s gone!?
Gone where? Gone from my side, that is all.
She is just as large in hull and mast and spar as she was
when she left my side, and just as able to bear her load of
living freight to the place of her destination.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her.
And just at the moment when someone at my side says
?She?s gone?
there are other eyes watching for her coming
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout,
?There she comes!?
this is quite beautiful! Makes me tear up and also makes me happy

I love the poem very much as well. I certainly teared up when I found it again and reread it. It is very peaceful and a tribute to a voyage well taken.

This poem was given to me when my mother passed on. I go back and read it every now and then because it gives me peace. Thanks for posting it Paula!!!!!

Lynne, You are in my thoughts today.

Same here...our pastor read that poem at my mom's funeral, and I believe it with all my heart.

My prayers are with you, your family and your dad for a peaceful, painless, fearless journey to eternity.

When my late sister-in-law was nearing the end of her journey, a friend told us, "You know that healing can begin when you think of your loved one as someone who lived, rather than as someone who died." Sounds like your daddy is a person who has lived very large and is much loved. Our thoughts and prayers to all of you as you wish him Godspeed on his journey.

Lynn, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
