That's it, Publix is evil, full time at 30 hours a week. Wal-Mart considers just 28 hours a week to be full time!

Okay Joe, here is how it works. A company approaches Walmart with a product they hope Walmart will want to sell. Walmart will negotiate an initial cost they are willing to pay and then order a set number of the product to sell. As time goes on they will continuously renegotiate the cost down in their favor. The supplier will begin to have to start making production concessions to keep making money. It reaches the point where they can either move their manufacturing overseas to continue making a profit or fold. Walmart sucks.
I get that idea. I watched the 20/20 clip too.

What about all the products they carry that other companies also sell? Are they forcing Frito-Lay, Ocean Pacific, Wrangler, Lipton, Sony, Western Digital, Canon, Olympus, General Mills, Johnson and Johnson, Gillette, Haywain Tropic, Weber, HP, Mongoose, Duracell, Quaker State, Goodyear, Bridgestone, Jif, Oscar Meyer, Bryers, Sunbeam, Black and Decker, Rubbermaid, etc to produce overseas? Or, are some of those companies doing it because it ads to their bottom line?

Is Walmart the only place you can buy these products and do they drive the prices down for their competitors, too? If so, when you buy any product that Walmart sells, even at another store, aren't you also guilty of sending jobs overseas?

You keep comparing Wal-Mart to Publix and then using product examples that don't make sense.

Bryers - makes ice cream. The cost of keeping it frozen from China on a ship would make it prohibitive. Same as if you flew it over.
Jiff - peanut butter. Why would you ship peanuts to Chine to shell, roast, and grind? All of that is automated and you don't have nearly the shipping costs.
Frito Lay - corn chips. See above.
General Mills - grain based cereals. See above.
Ocean Spray - cranberry juice. See above.

I realize that some of the above make other things, I'm just going with the first product that comes to mind.

The fact is that Wal-Mart far outweighs Publix in the amount of jobs it forces overseas with the non-grocery items.

I don't know what the bickering is about anyway. The simplest way to note the difference is to walk through both stores one day. Count the smiling employees, Publix will most likely win and it's not even their slogan.

I say take it one step further SWGB and count the smiling customers! ;)

You don't become number one by making your customers unhappy.

Somewhere on one of these threads Lucifer Sam said he thought Wally World drug tests. Publix doesn't. I'm just throwing that out there.;-)
