What I "Do" Love about Winter

New posts
I liked wearing sweaters and seeing my breath for about a month. Notice the liked- past tense.

Now I am over it- bring on the warm weather! This is the longest I have gone without wearing flips since moving here in 2006!

Ha ha - I was coming on this thread to say exact thing. ENOUGH with the cold weather already.

I am SOOOOOOOOO ready for flip flops and shorts instead of gloves, scarves and hats. But looks like we are in for another round.

Well our beautiful winter wonderland of fluffy snow, great for making snowmen, has now turned into rain and we are hovering at the freezing point, so now it can get ugly and very dangerous.

shakennotstirred, I admire anyone that deals with it a on regular basis. For us it is such an oddity we love it. However I was lucky enough to only have to get out in it this morning when no one else was on the road. I would not want to deal with your situation.

Of course that was at 4am, without any sleep. My hubbie called at 2am and said, "now don't panic." Well of course no one panics at 2am.

He was at work and had tried to do something he knows better and gotten his index finger caught in a piece of machinery and was lucky to come out with only a missing finger nail and 8 stitches.

So I had to pick him up at the ER, ambulance took him, company policy when hurt at work.

I will say it was absolutely breath taking at that time of the morning. New fallen snow, pristine, undisturbed. Not a car or human in sight and only me. I felt like some Nordic explorer forging through the frozen tundra with just me and my dog and my Toyota. I had forgotten how quiet this city can be, which is such a rare occurance. I drove for miles on streets that my tires were the only marks and as I looked behind me the snow was coming down so hard, my tracks were quickly erased.

So while I was not pleased to be out of my warm bed at 4am, picking up my husband at the ER, it did afford me an opportunity to experience something I have not done since High School.

Snow in our area is so rare that when it was forecast; myself and my two best friends would stay up all night watching for it. We were lucky enough to actually experience a few really beautiful snowfalls. We would bundle up and go out in it, in my very small home town, and walk for miles without a sound or encountering another person. It was heavenly.

OMG thank goodness he got away with only stitches!!!! YIKES! "Don't Panic" lol!!!

Thanks for sharing - glad it wasn't worse for your dh and happy that the snow is so beautiful - I bet it is breathtaking to see!!

Minnie - I am so glad that your husband is ok.

I agree the snow is most beautiful early in the morning before it gets disturbed and the ugly dirty snow piles begin. It always seems so peaceful outside right after a snowstorm.

This is not usual weather for us. We typically will get a few inches of snow at a time but have not had a storm of this magnitude since 1993. If we get the snow they are predicting for this week, we are close to breaking the record for snow on the ground of 26 inches. The record is from 1978. If this was typical weather for us, I would move!

Stay warm everyone! Spring will be here eventually.

Geez Minnie, I just saw that your husband got hurt, I'm sorry, but glad it wasn't any worse. I'm sure you will make him feel better cause you are so sweet. Brave lady in the snow! Love the pup, Sadie. :D

I tried to get Sadie to pose, she will do that usually, but the snow was just too much temptation for her to run and jump in it. A few more Sadie/snow photos.

Possessed snow dog!

Seriously though, I've been on the "Don't Panic" statement end of the phone. It sucks cause you just know there's nothing you can say to keep the person answering from panicking.

SWGB you're making me laugh again :funn:
Minnie, those labs are the best dogs, Sadie looks sweet.
Love the snow :D

Special prayer for hubbies finger to be healed quickly
