destindreamin, did you get any more rain today? It has been raining a slow soaking rain here since around 2:30 and it is still raining. we are at around 3 inches of rain since yesterday afternoon. Luckily our basement has stayed relatively dry except for by the garage door and the sump pump is taking care of that.

man do i sympathize with you on the basement flooding - we had that problem forever. on the east side of the house water would run down a little hill after heavy rain and pour in the basement window. we had that window removed and bricked up - problem solved. on the east side of the house there is a crack in the wall which i sealed with silicone sealer and fixed that. water pools up over there sooo bad, esp. when the gutters get clogged. we had a drain put in that runs past the side of the house and down the front - fixed that problem too. now we have a leak from somewhere (can't figure out where) that gets our ceiling tiles wet every time we have a heavy downpour. have yet to solve this mystery. ahhhh - the joys of home ownership.

Audie, are your basement walls made of big block. Ours is. We have holes that have somehow busted through the blocks behind our washer and dryer and when we have a all day soaker rain, the water just pours out those holes like a water hose running and covers the whole basement. Our basement is two level. Have the same problem upper and lower part. Our problem is more along the front of the house. It soaks down along the foundation and seeps in at the base of the wall down there. We have used a paint brush and applied some type of sealant on the walls down there and it worked for a while. We have two basement windows on the back of the house and have no problem with them thank goodness. We have tried to stop the holes up with a silicone sealant also and it justs forces water to come out of another one. Maybe some day we can afford a french drain which is what you were describing. We would just need it along in front of the basement. It is totally level ground right around our basement but our front yard is at a slight incline. But there is a brick wall and walk between that and the foundation. So this is very frustrating. I am assuming when you are talking about the ceiling tiles being wet, you are talking about in the regular part of your house, my husband says it is probably the roof! :bang:

Nope, lady. Rain went away:( . But, guess I'm lucky I don't have basements like you & audie!

no, it is our basement ceiling tile. our basement is about 3/4 finished, and has a dropped ceiling and there is just one spot that gets wet below the back bathroom whenever it rains really hard. can't figure this one out because the upstairs is fine. and we have checked the tiles numerous times after flushing the toilet, taking a shower, running water, and no moisture. the reason i know it happens when it rains hard, is a couple of times this year when the tornado sirens have gone off and i have gone to the basement, it has really rained hard and i can hear it dripping thru the ceiling tiles. our walls are poured concrete in the basement. the silicone worked very well for us so far. i don't think we have the french drain, it is just a square drain made out of the black pipe that we had a small trench dug about a foot deep in the side yard to carry the collected water away. it worked miraculously ! speaking of drains, my boss had 2 drains at the bottom of his basement to carry water away that are at the bottom of the basement (french drains perhaps :idontno: ) anywho, they collapsed and his basement was flooding so he had to replace those a few weeks ago, his yard was dug up and destroyed - big bucks !

:clap_1: We got about 3.5 inches!

This thunder & lightning storm gave us a better test for the "doggy mist" ... the herbal concoction that is suppose to soothe her and keep her from shaking and hyperventilating during thunder storms. It worked! She only shook a little with one thunder boomer ( I did with that one too)

.

Glad you got a decent amount. At least I won't have to water for one day. My lab just stands out in it if I don't bring her in. Crazy dog!

It sounds like your problem might be the air vent that goes up to your roof from the bathroom might possibly have a leak that is running down the pipe to the bathroom floor. The pipe at the roof has a flashing that could be leaking from a hard rain. Just an idea.

hmm- never thought of that - will have to look into it -thanks for the suggestion !

audie, had a problem with our roof by the chimney leaking a bit in a heavy rain after we had first gotten a new roof. It was coming down I presume around the flashing that is around the chimney and running down the brick part of the chimney in the attic.
