best directions from I-65?

New posts
There's a third option that I call the road less travelled. Going through Dothan takes you way out of your way so I don't really consider that an option. 331 may be the most popular route; however, we take 231 south out of Montgomery towards Troy / Dothan and, then, take 87 out of Troy.
331 meets within a mile of where my route takes you in DeFuniak, but it swings you out west a ways. If you want to see detailed directions for my way, shoot me a PM.

331 out of Montgomery is always my preferred route. Pastoral and lovely all the way to the beach. But do mind the posted speed limits in Luverne, Brantley and Florala.

331 may be shorter but the 55 route is faster. Less traffic. Plus you stay on interstate longer so the 80mph speed helps you catch up on time.

:wave:I agree with Smiley Joe. We have been three different ways, and 331 from Montgomery is our favorite. Going thrugh Georgianna is a longer route and I am always for shorter driving distance.

Hate to disagree with a fellow Tennessean, but I-65 exiting at Georgiana is by far the quickest, most direct route to SoWa: Georgiana, Andalusia, Florala, De Funiak, then the beach! There is no comparison continuing on down I-65 at 70 mph with no stops. IT is the best way.

We really think it is a penny-flipper. Have done it many times and this route only saves us about 15 minutes.

Curious - haven't been that way in three years, but how much of 331 is four-laned now?

Thanks for all the help, everyone! We are leaving this afternoon for the one of the best places on earth and will be sticking with what we have done the past couple of years and taking the Georgiana way. It seems like when we go that way we hardly see any other cars on the road. I knew the AAA suggestion of going through Dothan was a bit odd.

You won't be disappointed. Have a safe trip and wonderful vacation!!!!!

If using Google Maps, it says the 331 route is 11 miles shorter, but 14 minutes longer than the Georgiana route. Much of the route between Georgiana and Andalusia is 65 mph divided highway with no stops, and obviously I-65 is 70 mph with no stops, which is where you overcome the distance disadvantage with speed/time savings.

Looks like I need to rethink our route! My sister and BIL are following us down with a newborn so I love to take the easiest way.

Coming from Columbus, Ohio, our triptik last year had us take 65 to 84 to 331. Looks like taking 55 would be faster.

So would it be 65 to 55 to 84 to 331?
