COVID19: Opinion and Discussion

Was reading about a proposal for shielding businesses from Covid 19 related lawsuits. Based on the article it appears as long as a company is following best practices the proposal might limit their exposure. Let's use Publix as an example, they have signs in the doorway, workers are masked up and they are cleaning carts and baskets, yet they are not enforcing the mask rules for those who shop in their store. So is this a place where a best practice is being applied or is it what they will use to limit their liability in court? Next you have a bar/ restaurant with a sign on the door that tells you mask aren't required but more or less you enter at your own risk. What is your take on the idea of shielding businesses?
I wonder if the factor will be are they following state guidelines. If the state doesn’t mandate masks then they are not out of compliance.

I'd feel safer in a large ventilated area like Publix with no mask wearing than I would in a small restaurant in which everyone is masked up. OK maybe not quite. The reality is that most people mask up in Publix. I mask up, so that makes me somewhat safer from the virus. I think it would be possible to definitively prove that you are much safer in a grocery store that is doing their best to enforce best practices than your typical restaurant. In general I think that restaurants are much more careless and risky, and no one needs them in order to survive day to day. The problem with a virus is that "your own risk" is "their own risk". Yes, best practices should be rewarded with limited liability, especially for essential services.

Trump officials lobbied to deny states money for vaccine rollout last fall

The push, described to STAT by congressional aides in both parties and openly acknowledged by one of the Trump officials, came from multiple high-ranking Trump health officials in repeated meetings with legislators.

Without the extra money, states spent last October and November rationing the small pot of federal dollars they had been given. And when vaccines began shipping in December, states seemed woefully underprepared.

Breakthrough drug might cure COVID-19 in just five days

The drug is administered once a day for five minutes via inhalation. In Phase 1 trials, 29 out of 30 people suffering from moderate to severe COVID-19 recovered within 3-5 days, and all of them survived.
I see these stories every day. Phase one trial with only 30 people are too early to be posting. I also find it odd that I see all kinds of research claims across many different types of technology coming out of Israel. Supposedly they are far along in vaccinatimg their population. I wonder if it is a homegrown vaccine.
