Think for yourself kiddies!!!

I agree that we don't have perfect information on whether mandatory lock downs are better than voluntary methods of reducing the spread of the virus. So these calculations prove very little except that we are going to learn from our mistakes. The reality of the problem with mandatory versus voluntary is that both were corrupted by politics. Lets just say that our the leaders in society play a huge role in what works and does not work. For example if we had perfect voluntary compliance in wearing a mask it is more possible than not that the virus would have been controlled in less than 3 months. Unfortunately we had almost no information on how this virus spreads in the beginning. We first thought surface contact was the primary way it spread and then later learned that it primarily spreads from the air we breath in or out. A good leader of society would have only one choice and that is to tell the people to protect ourselves from both surface transmission and air transmission. In the case of our leader he did very little except to tell us that it is not a big deal and it will go away soon. So you can base your opinions on a singular study or calculation that matches up to your political will or you can try and broaden your base of information that includes the reasons why this virus became political in the first place. Think for yourself in other words...

That’s a bold assertion

It is a personal assertion true but it is not that bold. The virus primarily spreads thru the air from our respiratory system. So when we breath (we all have to breath right) particles of the virus can be inhaled or exhaled. Surface transmission is also a factor but now thought to be less of a factor. Transmission from the air through the eyes is also a factor but less than the respiratory factor. Everyone wearing a mask would certainly "control" the spread. The bold part of that statement is "perfect compliance". A President that cares more about the life and death of we the people than having power over we the people would have increased compliance significantly. We had an advantage in the early stages to get control. We did not get control so who do we blame for that. Listen, maybe we are all to blame or maybe our leaders have all the blame but the point is that we had a chance to get control of the virus in the very early stages. I believe that living is learning and what I learned is that a pandemic is serious as in life or death and that we all have a responsibility to each other. If you disagree then at least share your thoughts about why you disagree. I may learn something. That is what civil conversation should be...listening...learning...expressing.

I believe it, if it went along with hand washing, distancing, and common sense. Probably all airborne disease could be controlled this way.

Doing this certainly would have saved hundreds of thousands of lives.

Michael Campbell please join the conversation instead of lurking in the shadows.
Cases nationally are reportedly slowly creeping up and I can see why. Wife and I were out at big box stores yesterday and in our opinion the number of maskless people has increased at an alarming rate locally. In the future we will only shop during the less crowded weekdays.
