Debate Analysis and Opinions

Yes anything they do to win the presidency is a good thing, and I think they will. They seem to be doing the right things. Everything they are doing so far is quite positive. There is a good chance they will win Colorado, New Mexico, and Nevada. They are way up in Iowa. They should win New Hampshire and Michigan. They could win Florida, Ohio, and Virginia. They are actually looking good in Indiana. Of course they will win Pennsylvania and all the traditional blue states. I can't complain. The fifty state strategy is probably what made Obama strong in those three states out west. It's no longer needed. I really think their strength in Iowa, Colorado, New Mexico, and Nevada is what's different this time around. McCain almost has to win both Ohio and Florida I would say, and even that might not be enough because of those western states and Iowa. [EDIT] Also want to add that North Carolina is not looking good for McCain, and Missouri is weaker than one might expect. Not a good sign for McCain. I think maybe when he suspended his campaign he got a little carried away!:D

this week.. ;-)

............ Does she have analytical abilities? The only insight I have seen thus far, and proven last night, was that she has the innate ability to know when to take advantage of being at the right spot at the right time and acting like she is as American as apple pie. Does she have the analytical ability to be one of the top advisers to McCain on topics of deep relevance any better than the woman you would see employed at the above corporations, who btw, have families as well, sons who may be deployed, manage a family budget and marketing budget, kill what they eat in a non literal sense, degreed, and can wink in a presentation? No, as far as I am concerned, and if she were placed in the law or accounting division and asked to form an opinion, immediately, without any counsel, she couldn't do it.
................................

Mango, I'd take your analytical abilities over Palin's any day! I haven't seen or read anything that makes me think she had a desire, passion, commitment or whatever to lead our country out of the foreign, economic, energy, environmental policy messes we're in. She has been able to learn (for the most part) what McCain's campaign wants out there as talking points but I see little depth beyond that. I do think she wants to be President some day but not for the reason of really doing something positive for our country. There is much lacking in her true concern for our country from what I am seeing. jmo

Nice analysis Mango. Sarah Palin is interested in one thing: Sarah Palin.

Has anyone caught the smiley-winky undermining of McCain that has already begun? First she said in the debate that she was going to try to get McCain to see her side of a certain issue -- I can't remember which one, but it was startling because that is NOT what VP candidates are there for. Period. You do not say that "out loud."

Then today, high off her positive reviews, possibly pondering the breadth of the Constitutional rights of a VP (not to mention McCain's advanced age), she actually said on record that 1) she was not told McCain was pulling out of Michigan and 2) she was trying to get them to change their minds. This tells me two things: this is not a solid "team of mavericks," not by a long shot. And also: if this "team" is going to go down, she is going to lay the groundwork for her return to the national stage, you betcha.

I have read way more about Sarah Palin than is healthy, I admit. But it is clear that everything revolves about her, she tells small lies and whoppers with total ease, and she is not interested in working with people who do not make her own interests a priority. Troopergate is a small but important and possibly devastating example. I do not want that woman anywhere near the White House. I think I am being rational. At first I thought she was interesting. Now I just think she is scary.

Yes. It does appear to be about her - not the good of the country.

..TFT, Your analytical abilities put Palin's to shame also!

yes, but the difference is he has the intelligence to back up his skill and polish. Big Difference.

Not only intelligence but a desire enough to have given thoughtful consideration into developing policies and delving into the foreign policy, economic, environmental needs that will need to be front and center.

I hate to break it to all of you, but you are delusional if you think Obama is any more "prepared" than Palin. And if you think she is a liar, what do you think of "Mr. Experience" Joe Biden? He can't even get what he said about Obama straight.:floor: Palin is where she is because she is a good politician and she is on the ticket because she is a good female politician. She is taking it on the chin from the media (and most liberals) because she is not a good female LIBERAL Politician. :yikes:I like her but I don't trust her any more than I would any other politician, including McCain, "Mr. Experience" and the chosen one himself.

Read the NY Times this morning about "the chosen one" and his connections.

Obama has demonstrated his qualifications just through running an outstanding campaign and articulating well defined goals and policies and showing an extraordinary leadership ability within that campaign - this leadership is what we need now more than ever. I see Biden as being a perfect VP in that he is very well spoken, knows his place, and supports Obama in every important way.

Millions of people have give Obama much support in their prelim vote and in their strong participation in this election. Palin has done nothing other than be selected by McCain. She has not shown us much yet except things that many of us find distasteful and lacking. and do not blame the media if she can't answer a question or perform under the pressure of an interview. We can compare her easily to Hillary, and the comparison just makes Palin look extremely weak. how she became a governor is beyond me.

I still feel the Palin pick is good for the Democrats. so, while I am offended by everything about her, I am not complaining.

WHAT? Someone is qualified for a job because they audition for it a really long time and talk like they know what they are doing?:funn: I announce today that I am applying to be a brain surgeon; give me a couple of years to get the verbage down and then let me cut on your head.:floor::floor::floor:Makes about as much sense as the "Obama is qualified because he started running three years ago" garbage.:bang:

On paper Obama and Palin are about equally qualified. What makes Obama more appealing to me is his interest in affairs beyond his home state. i forget which columnist made this point, but the thing that separates Palin from Carter, Clinton and Reagan, all governors, was the latter three's long interest in matters beyond their state lines.

"Never lose a holy curiosity." Albert Einstein

I would have thought that after almost eight years with George Bush as president, all Americans would want to be sure this country never again elects anyone with so little curiosity as Gov Palin has demonstrated in the last five weeks.

She apparently "excites the base"...for the life of me, I can not understand why.

But, as Tootsie says, she's good for the Democrats! and that makes me happy.

I don't know that much about her other than she spent time in community colleges, beauty pageants, as a mayor then won the governor's spot in Alaska. How did she ascend so quickly? I have a hard time believing it was strictly serendipity and nice legs. If I am wrong, please let me know how.
I know she is absolutely hated by the left's intelligensia who think Kennedy School of Government types are the only acceptable candidates for high office.
I don't think she is an acceptable candidate for VEEP, but it has nothing to do with permanent cosmetics, her accent, her figure, her lack of an Ivy League education or a pregnant daughter. It has to do with her CV;it is too thin to be second in command with a president McCain's age. Pure and simple.
For whatever reason she has sparked hatred that I am glad I don't feel the need to become bogged-down in.

I think what you say is true that the far-left ideologues absolutely hate her on every conceivable level, but that's to be expected and it's not the whole story. A sizable number of ordinary citizens feel the way you do about her lack of experience, but also despise her personality, and in their minds, rightfully so. I've met people like her, I've had the misfortune of having to work with people like her, and I avoid people like her. It's her cutting sneering personality that puts me off. I simply don't trust her, particularly in situations in which she is out of her league. It's been my experience that unqualified people with her personality type will resort to all kinds of evasive and cutthroat tactics in order to move ahead and give the appearance of acceptable performance. Assuming for the sake of argument that my assessment of her is accurate, what's not to hate?:idontno: Like others, she makes me long for Hillary, and I was not a fan of her's at all. It's one thing when someone like her is head of sales for a printer company, but when she's running our country???:yikes:

At least with Obama he has the opportunity to surrond himself with people to give him input, ie Biden, and I am not a Biden fan, Palin did bring something to the McCain campaign but I refuse to make the same mistake that McCain did with Clinton, Obama did with Palin, reference lipstick.
