Driving On The Beach

New posts
:trainwreck:

I have propsed this before...perhaps the beach permits should only be offered to FULL TIME residents? I own property and yes, I pay lots of taxes, but this could work. Ask around...I usually just hitch a ride.

it has been mentioned before on this board that there are non resident owners that buy as many of the permits as they can. while this is being figured out by our esteemed politicians, i think a good idea would be for permanent residents to buy them up even if they won't be used. this way govt would see a bunch of sales and hopefully act sooner, and they may institute some realistic guidelines as to who is able to receive them. maybe locally registered voters should be added into the prerequisites.

Full-time, that was the meanest post I've ever read on this board. Bully. Thanks for the personal attack on my a$$. Somehow I expected some support after your bullying but hey that's okay too. I asked questions never claiming to know what I was talking about, jdarg. I only asked questions that needed to be asked for the environment, and the sea turtles. SJ mentioned he barely had room to drop his boat in cuz of the cars everywhere. That's why I suggested a parking lot, full-time. I have not seen any public parking with beach access from Seacrest all the way east til Inlet. How could I miss it? I drive that way all the time. Is the public access in Rosemary by the post office? :idontno: It has a real "private' feel all the way thru there. Anyhow I guess my whole point was, teach by example, people. If people see your permits all over and know it's for driving on the beach then don't you think they would feel the impact of their tent was nothing. They don't know. They are watching the locals for cues, IMHO. Kinda common sense wouldn't ya'll think. Please don't be hateful towards me. Believe it or not, I am a human being with feelings. I came here for friends and to vent a little, is that so wrong?

Here is the link to accesses maintained by the TDC. You are correct there are only three accesses in Seacrest and none have parking as the rest of the land is all privately owned. The closest parking area is probably Inlet Beach.

Oh, you are looking for access WITH parking. Good luck. I seem to recall a public access slightly east of Rosemary, but you have to park on the street. Inlet Beach, South Orange Street (I think) is the location of entry for driving on the beach. The County actually has four locations in SoWal where you can drive on the beach, but I know that two were closed off, and I remember talk of closing off the one in Inlet Beach due to the storms of 2005.

BeachSi02, if the access at the Inn at Blue Mtn Beach was required to be accessible by the public, according to the Judge, why is it not listed on the TDC's list of public accesses?

It's privately-owned and thus not mainatined by the County.

That is interesting, because someone else pointed out that the Judge ordered the access to be available for the public along with having 5 parking spaces available to the public. The Flagpole at that access is also numbered and monitored by the SWFD. Very confusing.

Therein lies the difference, it is a privately-owned access that the judge ruled the owners must allow the public to use. It is not a County-maintained access and thus not in the TDC inventory.

As for the flag pole, there are many flag poles on privately-owned property. Why, because if they weren't then there would be huge gaps of beach where the beach user would not have the ability to see the flag in at least one direction from any where on the beach. They were installed through easement with the property owner for beach safety purposes. Other examples where flag poles are installed on privately-owned prioperties include Seaside, Rosemary Beach, Tops'L, Seascape, etc.
