I realize this is way out there as an idea because I have zero knowledge as to its viability, but I will toss it anyway.I see a lot of non profits raising money for homeless veterans. I also see a lot of social media post about migrants, poor people and homelessness in general. With that said, some people seem to think giving a helping hand to the poor and migrant in general a bad thing and we should, I am guessing the we being the government, should not allow a veteran to be homeless.
In Florida there are approximately 2500 homeless veterans and Florida budget about 28 million to support the military in some way shape or form. It seems this could be a pretty easy fix that we as a state could fix veteran homelessness in short order within a couple of years. Maybe housing in 3 or 4 locations around the State so those who served would/ could have a place to live. Create a program to help them with employment. Provide medical care and services for mental health if needed.
Cruise ships? Last year cruise lines were selling their ships to scrap companies for as little as $100 per ton up to $400 per ton.
It could be a quick short or long term solution since they have everything needed to be self sufficient including a medical clinic.
I will repeat my ignorance on how well this could work.
