Heed the red flag, folks

OK- I have looked and looked for jellyfish and I guess they are totally staying away from the area in Seagrove in front of my mom's. So despite the purple flag, we have been swimming!
they would not dare sting Princess...

were they supposed to be changed?
judging by the legend on the sign, if you were the Flag Girl, what flag would you be flying with those conditions? These conditions were similar up and down the beaches of WalCo all morning.

I'm simply trying to show how even the flag system can possibly be extremely confusing for people who are taking time to read and obey the signs.

Well...it is hard to tell from a still photo what the conditions are specifically :idontno:

Sorry about that. These photos were taken at the same time at the same beach. Does that look like a green flag (favorable for swimming) day to you, or a yellow (medium hazard) flag day?

I think your mom is staying next door to where we stayed. We also swam during yellow/purple days. We were very cautious and didn't stay in long or venture out far. It was too chilly at the time. We never saw jellyfish either. SJ, the water looks incredible.

I don't think you can get more favorable than that right? OH, my heart is aching....

does the fire dept still do the flag changing? maybe they are to tired from fighting fires...
On fire alert, yesterday morning, might be more accurate, but too frequently, the flags don't match conditions.

I'm not certain if SWFD is responsible for changing private access flags, like this one in WC, or if WC has to fly whatever flag the SWFD is flying at other beaches. Either way, when the sky does fall, no one will believe chicken little, if this continues.

No, the SWFD does not change private flags, only County flags. The protocol is to evaluate conditions in the morning and then around 1-2pm at a minimum. The SWFD then decides if a change should be made. Also, if conditions change throughout they day (i.e. red to double red) they could change them again.

The adjacent properties are asked/told (I am not sure which) to be at least as conservative as the closest County flag pole since they can be seen from almost anywhere on the beach now.
