Well said, jdarg. Is it just me, or does everything seem more complicated these days?

Sigh.

Yes. And it is complicated in my mind too- I have given this subject so much thought this week. I don't totally agree with the methods used to get the attention of our government, but then again, what would I do in their shoes. And that is the key to me--trying to picture myself and my family in their shoes. Trying to balance my mind to what is LEGAL and what is JUST is very exhausting.

Think I will read about the Lumbees, since I know one now.;-)

Isn't it, though?
What is so ridiculous is that the Lumbees seem to be essentially penalized by not getting certain benefits because they were peaceful Indians who didn't need to be "taken over" by the U.S. government...! :idontno:

Seems sad too, I'm sorry to say I've never heard of the Lumbees or this injustice. I suppose this isn't in our history books, if it was I missed it. I am a victim of the 70's we were dazed and confused.

There is a phrase in this thread that keeps getting thrown around "the hard work". I fear everyone is making an assumption that the illegals are here doing the work that Americans won't do. This is bothering me. Before I get started, let me say this, yes there is a percentage of people "on the dole" that are working the system -- milking dry, but I think that number is small compared to the people who can't work. When I say can't, I mean they cannot afford to work. The way the current system is set up, people on public assistance can't afford to take jobs at minimum (or below) wage. This is were the illegal worker hurts the system. Employers hire them because they are cheaper -- they don't have to pay taxes, benefits, carry workmen's comp OR follow any safety guidelines. If the illegals were not there filling these jobs, it would force the employer to pay a fair wage for "hard work".

Just my 2?.

I missed this post, and you make an excellent point. Thanks for helping people see that the ballgame looks different from different seats.

Hey now, I'm a victim of the 70s and I'm not dazed or confused.;-) But you are right, I'm sure it's not in the history books. I read a couple of years ago, that a particular American (school) history book had 3/4 page on George Washington and 6 pages on Marilyn Monroe.

Probably the type of work done by immigrants varies from state to state.
My younger kid looked up how the boycott went back in our old city of Denver. His old middle school had half of its kids attend school yesterday. Those missing kids, about half of whom speak English, come from migrant worker families.

I come from the 70's too and from what I have seen, especially when it comes to Manifest Destiny and native Americans, the history text books are much more comprehensive now than they were for me growing up.

Hey guys.. who do you think picks up the bill when an illegals or anyone else get into the driver's seat and hits another car, runs someone over, hit and run? Police come..more Tax dollars... Hospital visits?
fake names and address's.... they can't find them to pay.. someone is going to pay.. who do you think is going to pay?... you are! In some shape or form.
and legals make alot of $$$$ on thier on kind there just illegals.. illegal people cannot by law ( USA LAW) own thier own car ins. so heres the break down- You'll find a legal person that hold ins for 10 cars all of witch are owned to "HIM". This might cost about $700 a car per year. But will charge the illegal $1,400. If the illegal should ever hit anyone or get hit.. they are told to "JUST LEAVE" try not to be seen- if you can.
Just sooo many ways of looking at this whole thing.. could make make a person go nutts

Back during the holidays a little girl fell in the store and got one of her fingers cut off. We tried to send the little girl a bunch of gifts just to say sorry, ect. but turns out they gave all fake names, addresses, info since they were illegal. Good thing they couldn't press charges though.

If you get in an accident with an illegal...you are screwed. Like beyond belief. Phead mentioned something in Bham about a guy getting busted "selling" people for cheap labor. If anyone has ever driven down Lorna Road towards Guadalahoover they know what I mean.

Go have a glass of wine and chill Dabell...forget about it!!!! Lighten up, have funn!!!! Seriously.
