Well, while we debate what's going on in one of our resort towns, another resort town quietly passed this by 2/3's of the vote.........

Breckenridge Pot Legalization Creates Big Buzz

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. -- The skiing town of Breckenridge is creating a national buzz after voters by a nearly 3-to-1 margin legalized the adult possession of marijuana Tuesday night.Breckenridge voters passed Measure 2F, which removes criminal penalties from the town code for the private possession of up to one ounce of marijuana by adults 21 and older. The ordinance also removes criminal penalties for the possession of bongs, pipes and other drug paraphernalia. It was an avalanche "yes" vote, passing 73 percent to 27 percent.

wow - has this happened elsewhere in the US?

Everything I found has been a misdemeanor, I've not been able to find a municipality that has actually decriminalized it like this one in Denver. If anyone does, please post. I was wondering the same thing Toots posted.

I found this..

Green-United States non-medical marijuana decriminalization laws. State-level but not federal decriminalization of non-medical marijuana
Gray-No federal or state level decriminalization of non-medical marijuana

I believe Alaska has a limit that is legal as well

This is about the 2010 ballot I mentioned

California Pot Legalization Initiative
And it was Richard Lee who raised eyebrows among many last week, including some in the "drug reform establishment," when he announced an effort to qualify for the California statewide ballot in November of 2010, The Control, Regulate and Tax Cannabis Act of 2010, the first major statewide initiative designed to legalize marijuana for personal use.
Lee and TaxCannabis2010.org, the newly minted organization he started to push the initiative, calls for the legalization of small amounts of marijuana for personal possession by adults 21 and older, and allows cities and counties the option of regulating sales and cultivation. The legal amount would be 1 ounce for personal possession, with cultivation allowed in a space no larger than 5 feet by 5 feet.

I'm very curious about how many will move to pass it so it can be taxed. I'm seeing more and more from both sides of the isle start to talk about it. I honestly didn't think I would see this in my lifetime. I'm still surprised sometimes, it seems.

Never waste a good (budget) crisis!

Never waste a good (budget) crisis!

There's actually a few articles floating around about how they will now become a pot resort, instead of a ski destination. I see it now, instead of ski bunnies, there will be pot bunnies sitting by the fire in their snuggies.:floor:

edit: sitting around , getting stoned and setting the snuggies on fire:blink:

Just thinking?.

Perhaps we can start a new group ? Florida Cannabis Associates (membership unknown ) ? and push to legalize and TAX pot within Florida . It could cure all of Florida?s budget woes, and we could stop looking to oil and gas drilling to solve our State?s financial problems. It would definitely be a lot "greener" solution! :D

Just an idea?.

I think if the law is passed in California, it will set up a very interesting situation where State vs Federal law is concerned. No matter what a municipality votes to do, the Feds can still come in and claim jurisdiction over them. We hear so much from the conservative side of America about how states have the right to rule themselves, I find it amazing that the true test of State rights may come down to something like this. Sometimes real life is stranger than fiction. It will be something to watch, for sure.

I'll smoke to that. ;-)

I think there's a whole other thread about this, cannot recall name of it.

Also, didn't I hear recently that Obama Admin had directed Feds to make it a lower priority to bust folks for pot in states where the laws are looser than Fed laws? Seems that would make it much more likely for more states to legalize/decriminalize and start levying taxes on pot, if they knew Feds wouldn't view that as an invitation to set up shop to bother happy stoners in that state.
