CRIKEY!! Are you saying I need to get my Christmas lights up?!!
OMG. I hate putting up lights. Every year 75% of our lights are dead (and we don't store them in the attic, but that doesn't seem to improve their longevity), so we have to stop decorating and go to Walmart. I'd throw them all away except that on the upper gallery and around the main front door (we have 9 front doors -- think Oak Alley), we now use fake garland that is pre-lit. That is, unless someone like the symphony orchestra wants to use our home for a fundraiser, and then we use real garland everywhere.

Thank goodness no one has asked us yet. I might just go to Walmart in early November and buy new lights. No way I'm debugging a string of $1.99 lights for one bad bulb anymore.

.
I missed the memo that lights shouldn't be stored in the attic! hmmm

Assume because of the heat? I really can't say I have been able to tell any difference but maybe haven't paid enough attention.

Well, that was our theory. The extreme temps and humidities. So we started keeping our Christmas lights in the laundry room. Didn't help. So I say that unless you've bought the outrageously expensive pre-lit stuff from Grandin Road or Frontgate, just toss it all and not deal with the frustration of year-old lights that don't work. For $1.99 a string, I'll skip lunch for a couple of weeks. That'll pay for the replacement costs.

We store ours inside and every year, there's several strings that don't work. When I start decorating, I plug 'em in and if they don't work, they're outta here. I don't like disposing of them either, but here they only get one chance to work. I have no patience in my old age.

I'll try a new fuse and shaking the strand. Ha! but that's it - too many bulbs to check on the mini lights to look for a problem.

I've started putting up fewer each year. I never understood why my mom wanted to limit it but I sure understand now! Sign of age and laziness I guess! :(

I hear ya. I've been known to go over the top (think Clark Griswald) in the past, but I just don't have it in me any more. Oddly enough, my kids are pretty scarce at decorating time.....hmmmm....
