Petition To Protect Soldier Monuments

New posts
These are quotes by Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederacy. If you don't want to believe him, I guess you don't want to believe any of the beliefs that were the basis for the founding of the Confederacy.

"Neither current events nor history show that the majority rule, or ever did rule."
~Davis

"If slavery be a sin, it is not yours. It does not rest on your action for its origin, on your consent for its existence. It is a common law right to property in the service of man; its origin was Divine decree."
~Davis

"African slavery, as it exists in the United States, is a moral, a social, and a political blessing."
~Davis

"My own convictions as to negro slavery are strong. It has its evils and abuses...We recognize the negro as God and God's Book and God's Laws, in nature, tell us to recognize him - our inferior, fitted expressly for servitude...You cannot transform the negro into anything one-tenth as useful or as good as what slavery enables them to be."
~Davis

What do I want from you? I want you to stop defending the Confederacy as a good and honorable thing. It was the cause of 640,000 American deaths, and as such, it overwhelms the list of atrocities you want to attribute to the American flag.

I do not fear you or the multitude of people that exercise the right to think like you do. I make judgements on actions. Character is based on actions that reflect virtue. In your case, I'm judging your words. Johnny Reb took up arms against his own country. He went down. Fully one half or more of those soldiers were kids. They were fodder for some monumentally stupid, evil thinking. Evil has never bedded down with honor. If you want to live in denial because your people lost, that's fine. You are projecting the fear that some of your most basic beliefs are illogical. It's like an open wound. You can't get past it.
You should not fear anyone unless they threaten you with something. That is the point of looking into the mirror. We were all co-existing with the Confederate Flag and now we are judging each other for "their words" (because none of us fought in that war). Of course not me or anyone should try and prevent you from doing that however it does open you up for judgement. That is the problem with perspectives. Do you believe that there was "abject evil" in those Northern Soldiers? You need to read more of Sherman's March and the rape of both Southern black and white women by those Northern soldiers. Does your perspective justify those rapes? Abraham Lincoln gave the orders to "break the spirit of the South". In military talk that is "take no prisoners and everything goes". You need to look in the mirror about what gives you the right to judge anyone if they have done NOTHING to you. That Flag symbolizes different things to different people and that is an absolute truth. People who judge others when NOT PERSONALLY threatened by others are self-righteous and/or FEARFUL of something. Again, only you can answer what your fear is about.

Slavery is morally wrong. I don't think you support slavery but people think you support slavery if you support the flag of slavery. It goes with the territory. Your territory is one of slavery. If you can't see that then you're blind. It's almost comical that you can't see it. People are poking you with sticks because you are like a scary animal they don't see very often. They don't understand you and want to see how you'll react.

You can argue 'til you die that it's about heritage and such. Most people don't see it that way. Your response that the majority of Walton County people want the flag is just more of your same. It's because most of them don't give a damn what others think, don't travel, don't have empathy, and don't read much except TV guide. Duck Dynasty is on who has time to read?

I like outsiders. I like fresh perspectives. Without them we'd still have plantations.
Jensky, it is simple as this. We ALL agree that slavery was morally wrong and that you and others "symbolize" the Confederate Flag to represent slavery, oppression, treason, bigotry, uneducated, poor and just about every judgmental thing you can think of. You can not handle the fact that others symbolize the Confederate Flag for anything good. It is a morally righteous attitude or belief that you are on the right side of slavery, oppression, treason, bigotry, education, wealth (yes you view anyone without wealth as backwards) etc. You refuse to agree to disagree, live and let live, coexist, find common ground or simply get along because you have an agenda that is hidden by the issue of the Confederate Flag. When questioned about those issues you keep hiding behind your computer and the words that you type to make you feel better about something that is bothering you. Please, I do not buy that you give a rats you know what about a flag because I know you are smarter than that.

Here you are accusing Bob of judging someone's mindset while judging his mindset, innaccurately I might add. I'm not here to defend Bob, but damn he states my viewpoint on this issue better than I could. Whether or not one knows the hearts and minds of the soldiers is irrelevant anyway. What is more important are the hearts of minds of those here today in 2015 who continue to support their lost cause of "abject evil". This speaks volumes about their character, and how they cannot realize this, is beyond me.
LOL yes it is probably "beyond you". Who began this judging game of who is right and who is wrong on the subject of the Confederate Flag? The nature of human beings is to fight or flee when attacked. So that is where we are (unfortunately) but if you are looking at who started it look no further than who you see in the mirror.

Misty, I will remind you, for about the tenth time, that slavery was mentioned as the cornerstone of the Confederacy, in the Cornerstone Speech by the vice-president of the Confederacy. Is it your position that these words are not the true history? They seem to be well accepted as the true cornerstone of the Confederacy. Or is it your position that slavery isn't evil?
Please clarify.
You have been brainwashed by those statements from JD. Yes, he was on the wrong side of the slavery issue but there is more to the story that you just can't handle. The USA began on the wrong side of that issue and the War Between the States did NOT happen because of slavery. Our forefathers viewed the negro as inferior. People in the North viewed the negro as inferior. People in the South viewed the negro as inferior. This is not a Southern thing and you can not handle that for some reason. The War Between the States should and could have been prevented. Please go read Sanderson Beck's Abraham Lincoln. "Cornerstones" are just that. These speeches are given to garner support. Both JD and AL were wrong in their cornerstone politics. Get over that, read more and you will see that politics corrupts good judgment.

I don't understand. No clarification. Answer my question. Is slavery evil? Does the Confederacy stand for slavery?
Answer this question? Is rape evil? I will answer for you, yes. Then why would AL give Sherman orders to "break the spirit of the South" knowing that Sherman's soldiers would not just kill and destroy but rape the women (both black and white) and completely destroy their hope for a decent world to live in? Did the US stand for rape and abject evil? No. As Sherman said War is War. War is evil. It should have been prevented through diplomacy. Southern politicians did not want to go to war!

SoWal is a uniquely beautiful place. I was warned about the surrounds by a Realtor about 15 years ago. He said it's a great beach, but you have to remember where you are. "Every mile off the beach you could roughly calculate a ten point drop in IQ until you crossed the bridge, then all bets were off". He told me northward "a good portion of the population still thought the spirit of the Civil War was still going on." And he we are, it's 2015.
So this is about your IQ then I guess? lol Okay, you got us on that one. Hope that IQ serves you well...

So, you just said the founders of the Confederacy were wrong. That is my point. Thanks.

This is the problem with forums. I said a lot of things in that post and you "picked out" only what you wanted to. I said Slavery was wrong, the War was wrong (for different reasons than what you have been led to believe) and politics incites division.
