Scott scraps Orlando to Tampa rail project

New posts
Let me say this loud and clear! I am for the high speed rail between Tampa and Orlando. Let me also say this loud and clear! As long as its built with private and not taxpayer's funds.
like the interstates!! yehawww!!!

.. and lets do it all with borrowed money from China, so we don't have to pay for it.

I like the idea of expanding our ports personally, we should leverage the resources we have. Boondogles might create jobs today, but they rob us of funding later that would be spent on useful infrastructure, education, and social services.
we do we have to show for our efforts in iraq/afghanistan?

we do we have to show for our efforts in iraq/afghanistan?

From the specific wars I can't really say, but from the military we spend on to fight them quite a bit, including that interstate highway system you like to yell about, and the thing you and I interact on, this here thing they calls that intertoobs.

guns or butter, i guess you like bullets, not bullet trains

I like zero debt load. Without that, you can have all the bullet trains you want, despite what a waste of money they would be. What was our interest payment last year? 350 billion? Start there, then we can talk about your boyhood fascination with trains.

High-speed rail ridership study shows line would have had operating surplus - St. Petersburg Times
? An updated ridership study released Wednesday shows that a high-speed rail line connecting Tampa to Orlando would have had a $10.2 million operating surplus in 2015, its first year of operation, and a $28.6 million surplus in its 10th year. A 2009 study showed the line would not have seen a surplus until 2021.

The study, conducted by the forecasting firms Wilbur Smith Associates and Steer Davies Gleave, shows the line would have had 3.3 million riders in its first year. The previous analysis predicted the line would have had 2.4 million riders in 2015.

I would be curious to see the details on how many seats per trip, and trips per day, ticket costs, etc. This is over 9000 riders a day. Are they expecting these to be commuters? visitors? Anyone have any ideas on how to get the study?

I can't find it online but I wish I could as it seems to contradict a number of other studies similar to it.
