Or maybe when fish hit 'em. :funn:
Years ago when we were at the beach I was in the water with my daughter, Fyl. I think she was about 10 years old at the time. We were happily bobbing around minding our own business when a school of kamikazee minnows swam into us. I mean, they literally smashed right into us going at warp speed.
I was wearing one of my favorite (ancient) swimsuits, the one that I probably should have thrown out about two seasons prior. It was all stretchy and faded. Heck, I should be honest and say I was wearing it because it fit. (We all know THAT story.) These kamikazee minows swam right INTO my swimsuit and I swear I could instantly feel them wriggling around trying to get free (all in the space of 15 seconds flat). I was shrieking and shrieking and frantically peeling off my suit. I dare any of you to say you'd have done differently!!!! It was a no-brainer.
I don't know who was more hysterical, though. Fyl was beside her 10 year old self at the shock of her mother taking it all off in the gulf waters
in full view and full daylight. You know those credit card commercials that end in the tagline "priceless?" This was one of those moments. You couldn't have seen a more mortified little girl in all of god's creation.
Fast forward to back at our cottage. I was in the outdoor shower just about ready to take off my suit to wash up when Merman came out asking what he should pick up for the night's dinner. It was on the tip of my tongue to reply "a pound of fish" when I looked down into the crotch of my swimsuit to see the corpse of a kamikazee fish. If I shrieked in the gulf, I shrieked twice as loud in the shower.
We had hamburger for dinner that night.
