Both ankles broken- appears to have happened after she crossed the finish line. I am sick to my stomach. They euthanized her immediately.

That's horrible but it goes with the territory, just like crashes in auto and cycle racing. Triumph and tragedy go hand and hand so often when mind and body are pushed to their limits.

I don't know anything about horse racing, though I did go to the drunkFest, I mean Kentucky Derby, one year. How do these horses get so strong that they break their ankles while racing? I hear that many pro athletes, especially football players have leg injuries because they have developed their muscles beyond what their bones can handle. Is that similar for the horses?
