Elected officials serve at the pleasure of the voting public. If the voting public want something in their community & there is no money in the budget but there is a grant available the official should make a decision not based on their own feelings, but on what those who are in fact their bosses, the voting public want. Now if this was an official in Washington or Tallahassee who could actual do something to stop some of the spending of our tax dollars needlessly by cutting "pork" then that shoud be done. But if the money is going to be spent, why send it to Tampa or Miami?
A person who is elected to office should be obligated to put the voting public first.
Sorry, no offense personally, but that sounds like Pandering 101. We should be expecting more from our elected officials in communication with those elected officials in Washington and Tally. My nephew would love to have candy for lunch daily, but assuming he could, the budget allows for those yucky candy corns daily. But if he bides his time, a grant may become available for lunch and a Snickers Bar 3X a week. Much more nutritional.
If officials foresee and prioritize their real needs, they will be more likely to get more money if they aren't dipping in the coffers all the time. Why do they not have the ability to have these conversations with higher ranking officials and their electorate?
