What will YOU give up for Lent?

Oven roasted sweet potato fries are one of my favorite treats! Add a little olive oil and cumin and salt and pepper. YUM and crisp and you won't miss the white potatoes :D

(I bake mine longer than it says and also, I cut mine thinner as I like crispness to mine)

My Catholic friends and family say that each Sunday is like a small "Easter" and so you can have what you like on all Sundays prior to Easter. In fact, I just read this on Wiki
The six Sundays in Lent are not counted among the forty days because each Sunday represents a "mini-Easter", a celebration of Jesus' victory over sin and death.

So, you just have to get from Mon to Saturday and then go hog while on Sundays.

Good luck and TRY those sp fries!!

PS I have lots of tips. In other words, I'm full of it!! :D But I've been doing this for so long that I've learned a lot of "tricks" that realllllly help!

I have never heard of the Sunday thing - I guess we didn't get taught that in my catholic church growing up! so I'm going to pretend I didn't see that.... I don't think I want to have Sunday off - unless its totally necessary... but no, shouldn't have to.

I have made roasted sweet potatos - cut in chunks, add olive oil, chopped garlic, rosemary, sea salt and red pepper flakes. yummmm.....

I will do your oven sweet potato fries a lot over the next 40.

I'm curious about this white diet, how does a Catholic receive communion if they've given up everything white? Does it not count since the Eucharist turns to flesh once ingested? Is that final proof that Jesus was black?

1) You are combining multiple posts
2) Those are white things
3) Since when do we strictly follow any rules - of food or logic?

I did this about 6 years ago and felt wonderful...unbelievable energy! At first I missed potatoes, but once they are out of your system, it is not a problem. Even to this day I will take sweet potatoes over white. Sweet potato fries are so yummy! I use sea salt and cinnamon. Butter can be a great side for dipping the fries if you want to splurge! My downfall will be pasta! I eat it 2-3 times a week as it is quick and versatile. Guess I will be back on squash spaghetti which needs quite a bit of doctoring!!

I have a few really good recipes I will post that helped me to be very satisfied. Once it gets going, it is not worth it to splurge on Sunday ...for me anyway. I am a true addict! But it will be a real sacrifice for Lent.

I love sweet potatoes! Never tried cinnamon, but will this week. And, I love spaghetti squash, too - pretty versatile as well!

I had heard that about exempting Sunday. I have to keep it going too, however.

A friend was asking me about Lent today and I shared with him that I've always heard we should give up something bad for or take on some good for ourselves. But, I'm not sure we have to do either, right? It's about The Preparation, which can be spiritual.

I ain't giving up nothing.
