Talk Derby to me

New posts
We'll be having our traditional crawfish boil on the dock at Lake Allatoona. Big screen for the Derby. Big Brown just might take home the Triple Crown this year. 30 years is the charm!

Thanks for the link, jdarg.

I'm making my simple syrup right now, picked up the mint Thursday, and am going to be smoking a few racks of ribs. Ahhhh, Derby Day!

BTW, Publix liquor store has 750ml Makers Mark on sale:cool:

Thanks for the link jdarg! I soooo wish I could be there. Maybe next year....think your Mom will let us come stay with her?!  Tell her forget the mint juleps, I will bring the gin & tonic!

Alright, I want pics from the Red Bar and we can pick our favorite hat. jdarg, do you have your hat ready? What about little PK?

I think we need to make a big batch today and just enjoy!

Ingredients
3 fresh mint leaves
1 tablespoon Mint Simple Syrup
Crushed ice
1 1/2 to 2 tablespoons (1 ounce) bourbon
1 (4-inch) cocktail straw or coffee stirrer
1 fresh mint sprig

Preparation
Place mint leaves and Mint Simple Syrup in a chilled julep cup. Gently press leaves against cup with back of spoon to release flavors. Pack cup tightly with crushed ice; pour bourbon over ice.

oh no, there is a horse injured on the track, I can't look, every since Barbaro, I can barely watch the race.

My dinner guests just called to say they won't be here until the Derby's over.

Derby over--wow! Big Brown!

Here's something funny. The camera was panned on this woman (wife of Big Brown's owner ?) with her large navy floppy-brimmed hat and strapless dress. She's jumping up and down and bouncing all over the place and the sportscaster is talking about implants. Apparently not her kind but it coulda been. LOL
